When might you need to serve a notice...

  • Building a rear or side extension. If you are excavating wihtin three metres of your neighbours property, you will need to serve a Section 6 Notice

  • Removing a chimney breast. If you are removing a chimney breast, or any other projection extending from a shared wall / structure, you will need to serve notice under Section 2.

  • Installing steel beams. If you are inserting steel beams into the party wall for any purpose, you will need to serve notice under section 2.

  • Converting a loft. This will include the section above, but in addition, you may also be exposing the party wall to the elements, and this is also notifiable.

  • Building up to or on a shared boundary. This falls under section 1 of the Party Wall Act.
